June 23, 2026
Amazon Prime Day 2026 is here, running June 23 through 26 — a full month earlier than usual, the first June event since 2021, and four days long. For hiking and backpacking gear, Prime Day takes a more discerning eye than most categories, and I'll be straight with you: a lot of the cottage and ultralight brands serious backpackers rely on simply aren't sold on Amazon, so you won't find them here at any price.
But there's still real value to be had. Between Liz and me, we've both hiked the Triple Crown and logged enough trail miles to know which packs carry well loaded, which shells actually hold up in weather, and which trail runners last more than one season. The deals below are gear we've tested ourselves and would put on our own backs at this price.
We'll update this page as deals drop throughout the event.
(You'll need a Prime membership to grab most of them; a free 30-day trial covers the whole event.)

FAQ
When is Amazon Prime Day 2026?
Amazon Prime Day 2026 runs four days, from Tuesday, June 23 through Friday, June 26, with deals starting at 12:01 a.m. PDT on June 23. It's earlier than the usual July timing — the first June event since 2021.
Is Prime Day worth it for backpacking gear?
It depends on what you need. Many cottage and ultralight brands aren't sold on Amazon at all, so for specialized backpacking gear you'll often do better buying direct or waiting for REI's sales. That said, Prime Day can be strong for trail-running shoes, headlamps, trekking poles, electronics like GPS units, and mainstream packs and shells. We only flag the deals that genuinely beat other sources.
Do I need a Prime membership to get the deals?
Yes. Prime Day deals are exclusive to Prime members. Membership is $14.99/month or $139/year, and new members can start a 30-day free trial that covers the whole event. Students and adults 18–24 get a six-month free trial, then $7.49/month, and qualifying government-assistance recipients can join for $6.99/month after a free trial.
What hiking and backpacking gear sees the best Prime Day deals?
In our experience, the strongest values are on trail-running and hiking shoes, headlamps, trekking poles, GPS and satellite communicators, and accessories. Mainstream packs, shells, and sleeping bags occasionally see good prices, but always worth comparing against the brand's site and REI first.
When is the next Amazon sale if I miss Prime Day?
Amazon typically runs a second event, Prime Big Deal Days, in early-to-mid October; 2026 dates haven't been announced. For technical hiking and backpacking gear, REI's seasonal sales are frequently the better option, so don't feel pressured to buy if nothing here is a clear win.
