commitment to gear reviews with a mission

This month, our cofounders Naomi Hudetz and Liz Thomas met in person for their first in person retreat since February 2020.

5 days and 4 nights of being in nature was just what we needed to reflect on all we've created with Treeline Review so far and recommit to our mission of buying right the first time thorough inclusive, thorough gear reviews.

Nature inspires us to get others outside

Nature is where we belong. We knew with a mission of everyone belonging outside, the best place for getting reacquainted after 2+ years would be on a backpacking trip!

Our "corporate" retreat involved freeze dried ice cream, topo maps, big mountains, alpine lakes, and a lot of reflection.

Other websites may scoff at the idea of backpacking for 5 days as the best way to make big business decisions. But for Treeline Review, being outside is in our very DNA.

Nothing like some fresh air and exercise to get the creative juices flowing! Liz (left) and Naomi (right) hiking off-trail up a big granite slab on the Treeline Review corporate retreat.

Gear reviews with purpose

Being in nature makes our minds more creative. It expands possibilities.

We focused on purpose--why we do what we do at Treeline.

Our goal is to make being outside less scary. To show that we all belong outside.

We're more committed than ever to create a welcoming gear review site that helps you buy right the first time. That's good for your wallet--and good for the planet.

The best place for serious discussions is by a lake! Liz (left) and Naomi (right) brainstorm alongside the beauty of nature.

How can we serve you better?

We want to be your go-to website whenever you have a gear purchase coming up.

That’s why being the website you can trust for objective, thoroughly researched, and comparatively tested gear is important to us.

Being your go-to gear website is a two-way street. We want to hear from you.

recap of some highlights from the past two days

Being in person in nature was just what we needed to think big about how we can always be your go-to outdoor website.

Here are a few wins:

  • Our team: We’re proud of the diverse team of adventurers who write from us from all across the country.

  • Live events: From How to Packraft to What to I eat Thru-hiking? we love connecting with the Treeline community at our free live events.

  • We have a search tool! The magnifying glass in the red circle to the right of your browser may seem minor, but this was a major technical win for us!

  • Getting outdoors remains the center of what we do: Despite running this website, we make being outside a priority. While running Treeline Review, our co-founder Naomi Hudetz was the first person to thru-hike the Blue Mountains Trail. Additionally, we’ve hiked the Oregon Desert Trail, Ouachita Trail, and Arizona Trail.

  • Do you have something to add to this list? Let us know here!
