The OOFOS OOahh slides are super comfy after a run or hike.

Our verdict

The OOFOS OOahh Slides are exceptionally cushioned and comfortable recovery sandals, ideal for post-workout recovery wear. In particular, these shoes are great for runners, hikers, and anyone who spends time on their feet to slip on after a run, workout, or long day on your feet to speed up recovery.

The OOahh slides are the most cushioned recovery shoes of any we’ve tested. They’re super plush, lightweight, easy to clean, and extremely comfortable. You can toss them in your workout bag and find immediate comfort after a run. Because of their excellent cushion and comfort, we named the OOahhs the Best Overall in our Best Recovery Shoes guide for the last three years.

I tested the OOFOS OOahh slides year-round, wearing them after runs, hikes, and climbs all throughout the summer, spring, and fall months. After winter runs, I wore them with fresh, wool socks when there wasn’t a lot of snow on the ground. I also tested them alongside other recovery shoes in our Best Recovery Shoes guide to compare cushion, support, comfort, fit, and more.

The biggest highlight of the Ooahh slides is OOFOS’s proprietary OOFoam, which absorbs 37% more impact than traditional EVA foam. The footbed also allows for natural foot movement, which, coupled with the OOFoam, helps reduce stress on the joints.

One limitation of these shoes is that they aren’t ideal for winter or rainy conditions, as the outsole isn’t particularly grippy and the (as you could guess) the slide-design is not intended to keep feet warm and dry. If you want a recovery shoe for winter, you may want to consider the seasonally available HOKA Kaha Frost Mocs. If traction is important to you, consider recovery shoes with Vibram outsoles, like the Topo Athletic Rekovr 2. Otherwise, if you don’t care about traction, you could pair these slides with wool socks for warmth when it’s chilly.

However, if you’re looking for a simple, relatively affordable sandal for post-workout recovery and comfort, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better option than the OOFOS OOahh Slide. Their cushion and comfort is unmatched and they’re a dream to slip on after a run. Plus, they come in fun colors and variations, including a flip-flop version.

How we tested

We tested the OOFOS OOahh slides alongside over a dozen other recovery shoes.

We tested the OOFOS OOahh slides alongside over a dozen other recovery shoes.

I tested the unisex size M6/W8 throughout every season for over three years. I wore them after runs and long hikes all over the country, particularly in Colorado and Indiana. These slides saw every weather condition imaginable, from sweltering hot summer days to rainy afternoons and icy wintry mornings.

I also tested them alongside other recovery shoes, like the HOKA Ora, Birkenstocks Arizona, and OOFOS OOmega slides, to directly compare cushion, comfort, and best uses. I wore all these shoes directly after working out and into the day to assess how quickly my legs felt recovered.

Performance in the Field

Fit and feel

I tested these unisex slides in size M6/W8 and found it fits true to size. I typically wear women’s 7.5, but since they only come in full sizes I sized up, which felt like the right move. My foot volume is average and my feet are on the narrow side, so I didn’t have any issues with fit, but if you have wider feet, you may want to try these on firsts since they aren't adjustable.

These slides should feel snug enough to fit securely without feeling so tight that you struggle to slip them on and off.

Ride and responsiveness

The entire construction of the OOahh slides is OOFOS’ proprietary OOfoam, which is super plush. Thus, these aren’t the springiest, most responsive shoes. However, the shoes are lightweight and feel so comfy after a workout that I felt super fresh and a little bouncy in them anyway. In short, they won’t bog you down.

Cushioning

The OOFOS OOmega slides (bottom) offer 15 mm more cushion than the OOahhs (top).

The OOFOS OOmega slides (bottom) offer 15 mm more cushion than the OOahhs (top).

While the official stack height isn’t stated, it’s about the same as most running shoes, in the ballpark of 30 mm. The difference, however, is that it’s entirely made of OOFOS’ proprietary OOfoam, which is extremely plush. According to the brand, this cushioning offers 37% more shock absorption than other foam shoes, and while we can't be specific down to the percentage based on our own testing, the difference in foam is noticeable.

Because the whole slide is made of OOfoam, durability may be a concern. I’ve worn my pair for a couple years now and they’re still holding up, but I also don’t wear them on rugged terrain. The foam will break down over time–my pair isn’t as fresh as the day I got it–but with care they should last you several years with casual use and about a year or two with heavy, daily use. For what it’s worth, they did win Best Recovery Shoes in our Best Camp Shoes guide–so they certainly can be worn in more rugged terrain (again, with care).

Traction and grip

The tread of the OOfoam outsole isn’t particularly grippy.

The tread of the OOfoam outsole isn’t particularly grippy.

Traction is not a strong suit of the OOahh slides. The outsole is made of OOfoam, which is not particularly grippy. If traction is important, we recommend shoes with Vibram outsoles, like the Topo Rekovr 2.

Breathability and upper

Since these are slides, they’re open and airy, allowing for plenty of breathability. The upper is constructed of the same OOfoam as the rest of the shoe.

Stability and support

The OOahh slide is designed to cup your feet and provide just enough support to help you recover, without sacrificing cushioned comfort. These slides are not as supportive as others, like the Birkenstocks Arizona cork midsole that molds to your feet, but they’re supportive enough for post-workout walking around. But what they lack in stability compared to the Birkenstocks, they make up for in cushion–the OOahhs are far more plush than the Birkenstocks, which is important for impact absorption and recovery.

Weight and efficiency

These slides weigh about 4.6 per shoe, which is super lightweight, about half of what the lightest road shoes we tested or ⅓ of the average trail running shoe. This feels amazing after a workout, as your feet don’t feel weighed down at all.

Durability and longevity

Closeup of OOFOS Ooahh recovery slides

The OOahhs slides are essentially all exposed midsole, since the whole shoe is made from OOfoam. This means it won't be the most durable option, and you may find you need to replace them more frequently than more hardy recovery shoes, like the Birkenstocks Arizonas. However, if you only wear them for post-workout recovery and are careful to avoid rugged terrain or conditions, they can still last you years. I’ve had mine for over two years and they’re in good shape.

The whole slide is made of OOFOS’ proprietary OOfoam.

OOfoam

OOFOS’ proprietary OOfoam material absorbs 37% more impact than traditional EVA foam. While we didn’t measure this scientifically, anecdotally we believe it–no other recovery shoe comes close in cushioned comfort. This foam is also moisture and odor resistant.

Machine washable

The OOahh slides can be thrown in the washing machine and then air dried.

Sizing

The shoes are sold in whole sizes. If you’re between sizes, you may want to size up. I typically wear size 7.5 and sized down to a 7–they fit OK, but I might have preferred the 8. When I tested OOFOS OOmega OOahh slides (same as the OOahhs but with 15 mm more stack height/cushion) in size 7, they were too small and I wished I had gotten the 8s.

Colorway options

The OOahh slides come in five neutral color options. If you want more fun color options, the OOahh line also includes the OOmega OOahh and the OOahh Luxe, both of which come in fun colors.

The OOFOS OOmega OOahh Sandals are the original OOahh slides but with even more stack height (15 mm more!) and cushion. They’re extremely comfortable after a run or long day on your feet. They cost a little more, but if you’re looking for even more cushion, this is the way to go. Otherwise, if the cushion in the OOahh is enough, you can save $30 and pass on this one. If you’re between sizes, size up.

The OKA Recovery Slides are cushioned, supportive, constructed with eco-conscious materials, and made entirely in the USA. While they’re not quite as cushioned and supportive as the OOFOS OOahh Slides, they’re a quality option at a more budget-friendly price. In fact, they cost about the same as our Best Affordable option, the Birkenstock Arizona EVA sandals. The OKA Recovery Slides are more cushioned than the Birks, but less supportive, so depending on your preference this could be a great budget option.

We named the flip-flop version of these slides the Best Flip-Flop Recovery Shoes, but prefer the slides as they’re a bit more stable.

HOKA Ora Recovery 3 Slides

Toe Coverage: Open toe
Upper: Soft EVA upper

Weight: 7.80 oz

The HOKA Ora Recovery 3 slides are a neutral, plush recovery sandal. These sandals boast the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Seal of Acceptance, meaning they are proven to be good for your foot health. They’re vegan and they come in a fun array of colors.

While similar to the OOFOS OOahh slides in appearance, the HOKA Ora Recovery 3s don’t offer as much arch support or shock absorption. Nevertheless, the HOKA Ora slides are still high-quality recovery sandals, as the wide rocker sole is comfortable and cushiony. If you find them on sale, or simply prefer them over other options, they will absolutely serve you well.
